Board Member

Lohr McKinstry has had a lifelong love of classical music and jazz, admitting he loves Rimsky-Korsakov, Mozart, Schifrin and Morricone.

As a boy growing up in rural north-central Pennsylvania his mother took him to see horror films and he began reading science-fiction, heroic fantasy and mystery literature. All of that shaped his life and he found his chosen profession as a journalist and photojournalist.

After stints at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Vermont he ended up at the daily Plattsburgh Press-Republican, covering Essex County and working from home after the paper’s office in Ticonderoga closed. He divides his time between Port Henry and Lake Placid and can usually be found at the scene of wherever news is breaking. Or maybe reporting on the local pancake festival.

He’s also happy to put his photojournalisms skills to use photographing the Sinfonietta and writing some of its press releases.

He loves music, reading, travel, electronics and animals. He’s the human to a little Tibetan terrier mix named Ellery Queen.
