Barbara Erickson

Board Member

Barbara Erickson grew up in Lake Placid, the daughter of Merrill and Sylvia Thomas. After many years away, she returned to her hometown in 2003 and immediately became deeply involved in community life. Over the years, she has served on numerous boards, including the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, the Lake Placid Institute, the Educational Opportunity Fund, and the Lake Placid Public Library.

For the Lake Placid Institute, Barbara founded and continues to lead a community arts book club that meets monthly and welcomes all who share an interest in the arts. Her long-standing commitment to the Lake Placid Sinfonietta includes years of dedicated service on various committees, leadership of the annual gala, and terms as both Vice President and President of the Board.

In addition to her arts and civic involvement, Barbara has volunteered with Mercy Care, conducting intake interviews, and remains active in her church and the Lake Placid Garden Club. Her leadership, enthusiasm, and devotion to community service have been recognized with the Volunteer of the Year Award from both the North Elba Historical Society and the Zonta Club.
