William Denton - Trumpet

Bill Denton has been Principal Trumpet with the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra since 2013 and a member of the Grant Park Summer Music Festival Orchestra since 2015.  He is a brass ensemble coach at Northwestern University, and has presented performances and masterclasses at Northwestern, Roosevelt, and Northern Illinois Universities.  Bill has appeared with the Chicago and Milwaukee Symphonies.  He has also performed chamber works in the Chicago area including the Dempster Street Pro-Musica Chamber Ensemble, and the WFMT radio Summer Rush Hour chamber concert series. Prior to moving to Chicago Bill performed as Second /Assistant Principal Trumpet with the Alabama Symphony in Birmingham.

 

He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Wichita State. a Master of Music degree from Arizona State, and a DMA from the University of South Carolina.  Bill served in the army

at the Armed Forces School of Music in Little Creek Virginia where he taught Army, Navy, and Marine musicians.  He was then stationed at Ft. Monroe in Hampton Virginia.  His last three years of active military service was with the Army Field Band, the Army’s premiere touring concert band.
